Do you know who this is?

This man’s name is Drew Scanlon. You may recognize him in this meme.

Look familiar now?
The Blinking White Guy meme has been amusing social media for years now with his all too relatable faces of incredulity.
But how did he get to this point and how has this changed his life?
The five steps to virility
Becoming viral can happen overnight and to anyone. Some people believe there’s a recipe for fame but the 21st century is challenging that notion with virility.
Here are five steps I believe can lead someone to Internet stardom. These 5 S’s were inspired by a resource training and visual management article that I came across a few years ago.
1. Sort through your sensational material
Pick your best side. If social media loves anything, it is something new. So, if you have material you can’t decide between, pick what you think is the most original.
2. Set in order where you want to put what
Organize your content. Do you want to put all your material on Youtube? Or maybe just TikTok?
3. Shine
Clean and edit up your content. Set yourself apart from the rest through editing.
4. Standardize
Figure out what works for you. Do you want to post once or multiple times a week?
5. Share
This is obviously the most important one. You can’t go viral without an audience!

So what’s the point?
Drew Scanlon was an ordinary guy. He didn’t reach notoriety due to his extreme talent in a certain sport or because he’s apart of a royal family.
But he did choose to use his fame in an extraordinary way. He had never used his own meme until the first time in late September 2019. He tweeted…

With this tweet, Drew was able to raise 25,000 dollars.
The Blinking White Guy meme is a great example of how the field of communication and our understanding of virility can benefit society. Without the medium of social media, sensational material is harder to distribute.
Thanks to communication professionals, participating in social media is one of the only acts of solitary that we do that can connect us to others.
What does this mean for you?
Virility isn’t just for Instagram users or Twitter battles, having a good understanding of virility can benefit you too.
I’ll use myself as an example.
Since I plan to be around animals for the rest of my life, I can share the knowledge I accumulate with those who are new to animal rearing. It could be as simple as a How-To video or a DIY article.
Whatever the content, it can be shared and shared for a greater cause.
Just like Drew Scanlon.
