Why blog in the first place?
What is the first thing you think of when you see the word “blogging?” Journalists right? Or maybe your neighbor who loves to cook and is always asking you to check out her food blog? If you thought of those things or anything related then you’re absolutely right. Many journalists do blog and food blogs are one of the most popular type out there. So then why should you do it?
- Blogging creates a place for your to portray yourself however you want.
In any job you find yourself in, you will have a professional image. Blogging is a great way for you to showcase your interests and talents as well as choose how you want others to see you. In a way, blogging is like your self-portrait.
Why blogging works for me
I am pursuing Veterinary Medicine. If I do earn my DVM then I could create a blog that would encompass animal medicine plus my other interests in animal behavior and nutrition. This would be vital information for pet owners that in turn would help attract them to my business. Who doesn’t love free information? Blogging as a vet could definitely boost clientele.

“In the journal I do not just express myself more openly than I could to any person; I create myself.”
— Susan Sontag.

Author's note: Hello all! Here is a little bit more about me. I am currently a student at the University of South Alabama pursuing a Communications degree with a minor in Biology. I plan to graduate and apply to my school's Masters Program to earn my M.S. in Biology. I then plan to apply to graduate school in hopes to earn a DVM and then specialize in Nutrition. Hopefully, I will be able to settle down and write animal nutrition books and publish my research! My favorite past times and hobbies include participating in dog and horse sports. I also have a secret love for dog training and conditioning. During my childhood, I won 11 National Championship titles in horse riding and have now switched gears to working on achieving a Master Agility Championship (MACH) with my dog Nico! I am an avid reader and love to watch Netflix documentaries.

Today I’m grateful for the opportunity to engage with my surrounding community and receive all the wonderful advice and insight they have.
